February

I had a great month crafting in February, just because it's the shortest month, does not mean its short on crafts. Whether it's rainbow wool creations or saving the world one sock monkey at a time, I have had soo many craft projects on the go I don't know whether I'm coming or going.

The first thing I finished this month was this little girl's dress, it's reversible. One side is this cute school uniform style orange Gingham and the other this oddly matching fabric I inherited from my auntie. I have been making little girl dresses for charity but this is my best yet. I have been using these easy dress projects to build my confidence and sewing skills. Because of the two right sides, I was having a lot of trouble working out how to sew it all together, I know there is a way of sewing it nicely, so you have no external seams, but my brain was having none of it. So, in the end, I bound all the edges with bias binding.

I recently got some cool black and rainbow wool 'Denys Brunton Designer Yarns, Magicolor' but it's 4ply, I hadn't really worked with 4ply before this year so I want sure what to do with it. I did a lot of research and all the patterns seem to be for baby stuff and since a friend of mine recently had a baby I decided to make her a shawl coverall thing. I picked a diamond lace patterned shawl called 'crafting tales by Nimhriel', it was meant for the 'yarn cake' yarns but it works perfectly with this yarn. I enjoyed working with the pattern and the yarn so much it took me no time at all to make and  I have now started a shawl for my self. As you can see from the picture,  I tried blocking for the first time.  is where you wet your work and pin it out to mold your work into the right shape. I was having a lot of trouble getting the middle to look nice so using blocking it all stretch out evenly and look so much more professional.

Let me introduce you to Ian the sock monkey. I had a spring clear out of my sock drawer and found a whole load of odd socks and pares I didn't want any more, instead of binning them I decided to craft with them in the hopes of giving them a new life. I found a whole load of pattern ideas, which I hope to have a go at soon, the monkey seemed to be the easiest so I thought I would start there. Thus Ian was born. once I had given him eyes, he suddenly had a sassy and unimpressed expression. My partner instantly fell in love, giving him a name and a back story. The pattern is super easy, all you need is two socks. The first one is the body, Cut down from the cuff to the heal to make two legs sew up and stuff. The second sock cut the section between the toe and the heal into three lengthways so you get two arms and a tail, the heal becomes a mouth, sew up and stuff and you are done. I hand sewed him and I was done in an afternoon.

Notable mentions
patchwork blanket
I have been working on a blue hexagon lap blanket for just under a year now, but this month I made a final push to sew all the hexagons together and make it square. I even cut out the Wadding and backing fabric. So now all I have to do is sew them together. Don't expect it done any time soon.

Skull Shawl
So above I mentioned I had started my own Shawl with the lovely rainbow and black yarn. I was getting such a strong day of the dead vibes I thought it would look great with skulls. It also messes with stereotypes, it's gothic but colorful. It is also the crotchet I take with me to work, I would have never taken anything I care about to my last job and nothing this alternative, it is great to finally find a job I feel confutable in.
